OK as my title implies, Diggy’s review here for the same Panasonic Plasma TV is absolutely accurate! I would strongly recommend anyone looking at a HD Flat screen TV to read his review. Frankly, I reckon his review applies well to just about all HD flat screens TVs at this point in time.
Like the masses, I was intoxicated with the desire for one of these large flat, sharp, colorful TVs. I too am coming from a Sony XBR CRT that was over 10 years ancient. So I thought it was time. It felt justified. When I walked into a showroom with all the innumerable TV’s on the wall scrolling through their sample DVD, I couldn’t help but drool. So I finally took the plunge.
But, I must say that the buyer wants to be made attentive of what the SD content (normal TV) looks like on these screens! In a word, TERRIBLE!! Far, far worse than I aniticipated and nowhere near what I get/got from my CRT Sony. Even the HD content varies greatly. Sports in HD generally look surpass on the flat screens and some content on Animal Planet but the rest… And as Diggy correctly points out, 90% of TV programing now is still SD. That’s a lot of lousy looking channels!
It is clear that there is a splendid deal of room for improvement and with HD becoming standard in February of 2009, I anticipate that broadcast TV will improve greatly. But at the moment, it is truly disappointing.
Now I will say that my son’s Xbox 360 games look absolutely incredible on the new screen. The colors and detail truly stop you in your tracks. Also, we did get a Blue Ray DVD player and the screen is a pleasure to view with these new HD DVDs. Truly outstanding!!
But for our household, movie night is Friday night and Xbox is limited to a few hours on the weekend. So the rest of the week is general TV. Therefore, we really only delight in the new screen on the weekends for the most part.
My point, if you haven’t bought one of these HD TVs yet, you really need to look at normal TV to see if it is acceptable to your viewing tastes before handing over your credit card. If your primary objective is to watch HD Blue Ray and play video games, then go ahead and buy, you’ll be very satisfied. As Diggy has pointed out, these TVs will take up again to get cheaper and the signal has to improve. It just has to.
But I find it fascinating that the CRT that folks are throwing away produce surpass skin tonality and truer color fidelity than the new stuff.
In closing, let me say that I do not know Diggy in any way. I am not trying to sell anything here. I do use these customer reviews more than website reviews and magazine review to determine whether a touch is worth buying or not. So if it’s splendid, I am pleased to say so and if it’s not, I hope I can write a review that may help the next person.
Excellent Luck whether you buy now or wait.

For the price I don’t know how you do much surpass. The TV is splendid, (but yes, only 720i) the blacks are splendid, the packaging it came in was as well designed as anything I’ve ever seen as was the internal stand system. Amazon was splendid and REALLY well priced, about the only thing I can say was terrible was there was no way to track the shipping (it came on the last day of the manner of speaking window), but it’s a huge heavy box so that’s not too surprising.
